Tensions have been brewing for the past month in Cameroon’s two anglophone regions, where people say they are being treated as second-class citizens. What began as protests by lawyers against the use of French in courts quickly spread to schools and universities after teachers agreed to strike over the dominance of the French language. In Bamenda, the country’s largest anglophone city, at least four people were killed last week when security forces fired live ammunition in the air and launched teargas into a market despite no evidence that there was a protest taking place. Mamfe - Mass Arrests Of Youths After Clashes With Secessionists

  By Arah Tambe In Mamfe There has been a series of arrests of youths, in Mamfe, chief town of Manyu Division in the Southwest Region of Cameroon following violent clashes between the military and members of the secessionists group, Southern Cameroon National Council, the SCNC who are clamoring for the independence of Southern Cameroon. There have been reported hit and run attacks before in the interior of the Division with a lot of uncertain casualties recorded. There are also some reports of cross attacks in the main town of Mamfe injuring unarmed civilians. However, things turned sour On September 22, when Cameroonian troops opened fire against Anglophone protesters.   According to eyewitnesses, five people were shot dead and many more were injured.
