Arrested Gender Activist Released From Detention

 By Akem Ayuk A prominent Limbe based gender activist has been released from detention, three days after she was arrested by Cameroonian soldiers. Joana Eneke Enowmbi, who is Gender Officer and a field coordinator at the Limbe-based Denis Miki Foundation, a Non-governmental organization, in the South West Region of Cameroon, was arrested in the night of Saturday December 10, 2022.   She was preparing to return from one of her field trips that was aimed at investigating cases of alleged rape on internally displaced women and girls of the Anglophone war in a locality around Buea subdivision. She is said to have been picked up in a local motel where she and her colleagues were having a rest. By Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe The National Oil Refining Company, SONARA, has handed over a Modern Toilet that costs FCFA 8 Million Francs to the authorities of Government Primary School Towe, in Limbe I Sub Division on Thursday, December 8, 2022 It is worth noting that this is not the first modern toilet facility that SONARA is providing to schools within its neighborhood. A few years back, SONARA built the same facility in Government Primary School Mokunda, in the Limbe II Sub Division. Thus the construction of this toilet facility at GS Towe is just a continuation of a series of corporate social responsibility projects that SONARA has been carrying out over the years in different communities in Limbe, Fako Division and beyond. Its poor topography and Climate change effects characterized by excessive rainfall, landslides and floods are giving the population and City Authorities sleepless nights. To mitigate what from all indications appear to be caused by its poor topography and deforestation, 90.000 plants are currently being nursed in a jumbo nursery created by the Limbe city council. These plants it is believed will be able to hold the loose soil of Limbe which is partly responsible for floods and landslides. Nkongho Agbor Is President Of Cameroon Union Of Young Lawyers

He was elected last Sunday in a heated election of the union that took place at a Douala based hotel during the Elective General Assembly of the union. He carried the day after getting the majority of the over 600 members who turned out to vote. The Union it should be noted boosts of over 800 members, being lawyers with less than 15 years in the legal practice. Jubilation In Mamfe As Kidnapped Priests, Others Freed

By Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe There had been jubilation and merrymaking at the Roman Catholic Church Premises in Mamfe and Nchang Village following the appearance of a car that afternoon with 9 Church members  kidnapped by alleged separatist fighters.  The Four Priests, a cook, a little girl, a Nun, and an assistant Catechist kidnapped at the St Mary Catholic Church in Nchang Village in the Manyu Division were freed on October 23 by their kidnappers. An insider said they were taken by the kidnappers to an area around Akwaya before their release.  It is believed that the pictures that went in circulation were taken at a location in Nigeria - Ikom, that shares a common boundary with Akwaya in the Manyu Division. SGBV which is the most pervasive human rights violation, is not inevitable and must be prevented at all levels even amongst intimate sexual partners. When the entire social structure is designed to reinforce the idea that women most especially are second class citizens, it creates a communal disregard for the exploitation of women. Their perpetrators are usually intimate sexual partners, family members, neighbors or strangers.
