Mukete’s Smooth Transition Reignites Ages-Old Debate on Africanized Democracy

Image
The Colbert Factor This reflection is inspired by the fact that despite mounting jurisprudential evidence to the effect that chiefs, monarchs, and even supposedly democratically elected leaders across the African continent would want to stay in power till death do them part, even when they are found grossly wanting in leadership, the Mukete royal family, and by extension, the Bafaws of South West Cameroon recently stood out as the shining city on the hill, with centenarian Mukete willingly abdicating the throne for quinquentinarian Mukete to take over.   It is the more informed by the fact that since elections in Africa continue to give Western-inspired democracy a bad name, the smooth transition engineered in truimphant detail by the Mukete dynasty in Kumba, could be a unique opportunity for Cameroonian and African intellectuals to relaunch across-the-board conversations on consensual democracy or Africanized democracy as a means of enabling Africa market its own brand of democra

Of Dr Kinge , Mrs Njuakom, the Finex Douala Incident and the Urgent Need for Public Toilets in Cameroon

The Colbert Factor This reflection is inspired by the fact that when in the 90s, renowned University don, Godfred Tangwa, under the pen name   Rotcod Gobata published his unputdownable   book entitled 'The Past Tense of Shit', being a collection of prophetic reflections serialized in The Post newspaper on the travails of Anglophones and what could befall Cameroon if nothing was done, many thought his objective was just to test the linguistic competence of experts over the unsettled quarrel of whether the past tense of 'shit' was 'shat' or 'shitted', not knowing that the past tense could as well be 'death', as in the case of the gendarme officer who died a fortnight ago in Douala after shitting at Finex travel agency and lacking a 100 FCFA to pay for the service. It is the more informed by the fact that when former Bamenda City Delegate dismissed media inquiries on the urgency for public toilets on its Central Business District   on grounds that

Image
To anyone familiar with the social media landscape in Cameroon, Arrey Echi is a household name. Growing up as a child was not a bed of roses, especially living and schooling in a community where no special attention is given to people with disabilities. As a child, Arrey Echi was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, which is said to be the most severe form of the disease. Before finishing primary school, she lost her hearing, which has affected her speech. In addition to a life-time genetic disorder she had to deal with, facing stigma from society, like most people living with sickle cell marked her childhood. But that did not stop her from “speaking” but this time around through writing. It all started with a blog, then advocacy and today she leads an association: Joy2Endure Foundation. The graduate of the University of Buea is based in Yaounde where she works and lives independently, after her family reluctantly decided to give her some breathing space.
