Professor Julius Oben Gives Nutritional Advice During Coronavirus Pandemic

“Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the first case in Cameroon of which was reported by the Ministry of Health on March 6 2020.   To date, more than 800 cases have been reported in Cameroon despite the measures that were put in place by the governm ent. Key amongst these measures were recommendations on hygiene (handwashing and/or hand sanitizing) and social distancing aimed at limiting transmission. Other theories have been put forward as to how best to manage COVID-19, ranging from the use of pharmaceutical products like chloroquine to food supplements.   For any of these to merit any serious consideration, it is important to know how the body actually reacts to viral infections.   The human body generally has the appropriate mechanisms to defend itself against bacterial or viral (pathogen) attacks.    The first line of defense is generally through the physical barrier pro

BY Fongang Akweba After over weeks of training to serve as Trainer in “Do No Harm,” thanks to the PCC Peace Office, the National Coordinator of the Cameroon Community Media Network CCMN Rosaline Akah Obah, had the opportunity to share this content in a presentation for over an hour last week. The “Do No Harm” (DNH) is a concept use d mostly by institutions and organizations to minimize harm in situations of violent conflicts and support local capacities to build peace. For example, h ow may aid be provided to IDPs in ways that, rather than feeding into an exacerbating conflict, help local people disengage from the violence that surrounds them and begin to develop alternatives? At the end of the training, the Preachers of Peace in Mezam Presbytery were encouraged to go back and explain to others the concept of “Do No Harm”, apply the “Do No Harm” tools in context analysis, use the concept to assess the impact of humanitarian or development assistance on conflict and us

Image
By Francis Tim MBOM The Cameroon Association of Media Professionals, CAMP, has began the free  donation to media houses of assistance aimed to help these organs protect their Journalists as they go out to cover and report on the deathly COVID-19 pandemic. The novel Covid-19 pandemic that has killed thousands of people across the globe does not discriminate and has not spared even the Journalists covering and reporting on it. Everybody is a potential victim. And given that the Journalists must be at the frontlines to cover and report factually on the disease, the National President of CAMP, Tarhyang   Enowbikah Tabe, said his NGO thought it wise that it will be of utmost imperative for the Journalists who have been helping to report and sensitize the public to help them stay safe from this disease to equally not die from the disease. It is based on the above that in partnership with another local NGO, Favour Low cost Health Foundation, CAMP, on Thursday, April 16, b

Digitization of Cameroon’s Civil Status Registry; A Pathway To Country’s Emergence By 2035

Despite awareness raising campaigns for the issue of birth certificates, as well as  efforts at the legal and administrative reorganization of civil status registries in Cameroon, a large part of the population does not resort to civil status services. The  National Institute of Statistics indicates that the registration rate at birth of children under five, which had been declining continuously over the past 20 years,  moving from 70 % in 2006 to 61 % in 2011 experienced a slight increase to 66% in 2014 at the national level . This may be as a result of the amendment of  the Law on civil status in Cameroon in 2011, which increased the legal timeline for  birth registration from 30 to 90 days. The lowest registration rates are in the Far  North region (42%) and South West region (55 %). Considering the latest figures, one third of children are not registered at birth, and  do not have birth certificates. The issue is all the
