Leading
humanitarian and rights based women-led Civil Society think tank, Changing
Mentalities, Empowering Groups, known by its acronym as CHAMEG, has embarked on a one month project to support Government’s efforts in
the fight against the deadly COVID-19 Pandemic.
The
Advocate Cameroon has been following the project which is already in its third
week with a series of activities already taken place with very positive results
and applauds from the beneficiary communities.
The
group which is coordinated by Agbor Magdalene, widely known as Agbor Meg,
started their donation of Face Masks at the Mile 17 Motor Park in Buea,
Southwest Region Of Cameroon.
At
this very popular transit point, over 200 Face Masks were distributed to
drivers and passengers onboard vehicles.
The
team, The Advocate Cameroon gathered has equally donated some more than 100
Face Masks to the Buea Taxi Drivers Union as a means to halt the spread of the
COVID-19 Pandemic.
The
most recent action of CHAMEG is the donation of more than 100 Hand Sanitizers
and Face Masks to the Cameroon Ratio and Television, CRTV, Southwest.
Speaking
to The Advocate Cameroon, Agbor Meg said, it was imperative for Journalists who
have the responsibility of informing the masses to be protected so they can
effectively and efficiently carry out their daunting functions.
The
Station Manager of CRTV Buea, Kange Williams Wasaloko was elated with the
gesture of the CHAMEG team and as he expressed himself at the ceremony that
took place in Buea on April 17.
All
these actions, according to Meg Agbor, goes to reinforce the measures put in
place by the World Health Organization and the Government of Cameroon to fight
the COVID-19 Pandemic.
It should be noted that Changing Mentalities and Empowering
Groups (CHAMEG) is an NGO that operates in Cameroon and has impacted the lives
of many through to its community outreach projects in many domains.
From solving and addressing problems related to the
preservation, storage, marketing, and processing of food among the
underprivileged, to advocating for the eradication of harmful cultural
practices like female circumcision and early marriages of girl children, the
organization also focused on the need to improve the socio-economic condition
of women to achieve effective change.
With the escalation of the Anglophone crisis and its resultant effect, the NGO also
got itself involved in a lot of
humanitarian projects whose results are cited as best practices.
With the advent of the Coronavirus, many people are not
surprised that the Organization has embarked on actions towards preventing the
virus and its ravaging effects.
