Corporate Social Responsibility: SONARA Hands FCFA 8M Modern Toilet To School

By Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe

The National Oil Refining Company, SONARA, has handed over a Modern Toilet that costs FCFA 8 Million Francs to the authorities of Government Primary School Towe, in Limbe I Sub Division on Thursday, December 8, 2022

It is worth noting that this is not the first modern toilet facility that SONARA is providing to schools within its neighborhood.

A few years back, SONARA built the same facility in Government Primary School Mokunda, in the Limbe II Sub Division.

Thus the construction of this toilet facility at GS Towe is just a continuation of a series of corporate social responsibility projects that SONARA has been carrying out over the years in different communities in Limbe, Fako Division and beyond.

The Director in Charge of Technical Control at SONARA was at GS Towe in the company of other SONARA staffers amongst them Parfait Messina Ngosso of the Communication Service.

Receiving the toilet, The Head Teacher of Government Primary School, GS, Towe, Limbe I Sub Division, Mrs Rebecca Monono Nalova, , joined her voice to that of her pupils to thank the Management of SONARA for the construction of a modern toilet facility in their school.

Mrs Monono, addressing to Director in Charge of Technical Control at the National Oil Refining Company, SONARA, Mr Jean Marc Yamb, said. “We the teachers, pupils including the parents are very glad to have such a wonderful gift from this very prestigious company, SONARA.”

The Director was at the School on behalf of his General Manager, Mr Jean Paul Simo Njonou, to officially hand over a modern toilet facility to the school constructed by SONARA as part and parcel of the corporate social responsibility action of their company to make better the lives of the people of the communities around.

The facility has two sections; one for the teachers and one for the pupils. It is a water closet toilet system designed to offer ample comfort and ease to both the teachers and pupils of the school.

The Head Teacher disclosed that the school had well over 600 pupils and over a dozen teachers. And before SONARA can to their rescue with a modern toilet facility, they were depending on a pit toilet facility.

On behalf of the Towe Community, the Quarter Head of Livanda South Quarters, Mr Ndung Clement also commended the gesture from SONARA to the benefit of the pupils and teachers of his community.

“SONARA has done something very important to our community. We pray for the quick revival of SONARA so that many more things such as this one can be done,3 the Quarter head said.

He, however, went on to solicit the Management of SONARA to, as per the means available, to assist them with a borehole water system which he said will go to serve both the school and the community around.

Speaking earlier, the Director in Charge of Technical Control at SONARA reiterated that. “We are delighted to hand over this structure worth over 8,000,000 to the authorities of this school. This project falls within the framework of SONARA’s corporate social responsibility policy which focuses on the wellbeing of those in its neighbouring communities,”
