There has been a series of arrests of youths, in Mamfe, chief town of Manyu Division in the Southwest Region of Cameroon following violent clashes between the military and members of the secessionists group, Southern Cameroon National Council, the SCNC who are clamoring for the independence of Southern Cameroon.

There have been reported hit and run attacks before in the interior of the Division with a lot of uncertain casualties recorded.

There are also some reports of cross attacks in the main town of Mamfe injuring unarmed civilians.

However, things turned sour On September 22, when Cameroonian troops opened fire against Anglophone protesters.

According to eyewitnesses, five people were shot dead and many more were injured.

In Mamfe on the same day, group of young men attacked the Administrative building and pulled down the flag of the Nation and made an attempt to hoist the Southern Cameroon Flag.

There was a counter attack by the military that ended up in violent stage with many casualties on the side of the secessionists.

A good number of the young men on the streets were arrested, and detained; others are reported to have fled to Neighboring Nigeria as refugees or to stay with relatives.

Amongst other cases of young men reported to have taken off were Agbor Jerome, Lambert Tatah, Olumo Ochi Peter and a Business man, Ojong Clovis, who is said to have been shot at his arm during a clash and his shop later razed and his brother killed.

Reports from Mamfe say there is a lot of uncertainties as corpses of young men are found in strange locations without a clear statement for state authorities.

Shops are being razed; houses destroyed and economic activity has been grounded in the once very economic active town of Mamfe.
