Some
over 50 women and young girls have lauded the Henrietta Nkongchu Foundation
after receiving food items and cash support in line with the Anglophone Crisis
and the CODIV-19 and its devastating effects.
The
donations took place last Saturday September 2, 2020 at the Women Empowerment
Center, Limbe.
The
donations were done to the over 50 Internally Displaced women and girls by
Henrietta Nkongchu Foundation with support from Intersource.
Bridget
Ngo, a beneficiary of the largesse, appreciated the Henrietta Nkongchu
foundation for supporting them during this difficult period of time because
they have been facing so many difficulties such feeding, paying of bills,
sending children to school as well as providing for themselves despite the fact
that they have occupied themselves with little businesses.
They
also gave thanks to God almighty for sending such a person to come support them
and prayed that may God continue to bless her for her good works.
Other
beneficiaries who opted for anonymity confirmed with joy that some of them
survived on a daily bases by receiving aids from NGOs.
The
young women and girls also thanked the Henrietta Nkongchu Foundation for the
little lesson given to them during the event to learn how to save their money.
Speaking during the event, beneficiaries also
mentioned their problems such as Gender Based Violence.
In
response to this, the Divisional Delegate of Women Empowerment for Fako,
Veronica Nkwenti told them on how to treat the matter.
The Divisional Delegate also made mention of
the fact that she does not only stand for the women but does so too for the men
because she has come across several cases of women brutalizing their husbands.
The
women were visibly excited for the stuff and knowledge which they gained from
the event.
Members
of the Henrietta Nkongchu Foundation and representatives from the Women
Empowerment and the Family Center also advised the youth on how to be
responsible especially in their dressing.
Speaking
to The Advocate at the close of the event, Bih Lesly who represented the head
of the foundation said the main aim of this foundation is to assist the less
privileged in the society.
We help mostly the young children, young girls, women and widows by giving them financial assistance and unorthodox support system to assist them as well assisting needy students to go back to school.” She narrated
According to her; they also educate young people on how to develop live skills that can help them in future.
It
should be noted that the foundation works with organizations that are well
established in the country and in partnership with Intersource.
The
foundation started this 2020 and it’s about 6 months old, yet many have
described it as a baby born with teeth.
