It was an atmosphere of joy and praises in Limbe as Limbe based women-led think thank and civil society organization gathered in celebration.
Able Women Cameroon Civil Society Organization was celebrating her maiden batch of laureates for bronze and silver medals of the Duke Of Edinburgh International Awards (DofE) from the JCIM unit of the Father’s House Assembly, Busumbu-Limbe.
DofE is a voluntary leadership development and Empowerment program for young people aged 14-25 under the Engaged Youth Corner Program (EYCPs) within Able Women’s Youth Empowerment Programs.
In line with her slogan “equipping young people for life”, these young minds have for the past 18 months been drilled on life lessons, engaged in trauma healing and peace building activism.
They have been through the four sections which are, Skill Acquisition, Community service, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey.
Ernestine Oben, founder/Coordinator of AbleWomen Cameroon who doubles as the Regional Representative for the Awards for the South West Region, speaking at the award ceremony of the pioneer batch (Batch of Resilience) commended the awardees for the resilience and commitment to them achieving the bronze and silver medals for the first 2 levels of the program
Ernestine Oben also implored the congregation leadership to support and encourage other eligible youths to advance the already existing unit within the community.
It should be noted that most of the awardees were Internally Displaced.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (commonly abbreviated DofE) is a youth awards programme founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh that has since expanded to 144 nations.
The awards recognise adolescents and young adults for completing a series of self-improvement exercises modeled on Kurt Hahn's solutions to his "Six Declines of Modern Youth".
In the United Kingdom, the programme is run by The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, a royal charter corporation.
A separate entity, The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation, promotes the award abroad and acts as a coordinating body for award sponsors in other nations, which are organised into 62 National Award Authorities and a number of Independent Operators.
Award sponsors in countries outside the United Kingdom may title their awards Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, though the recognition also operates under a variety of other names in countries without a historic link to the British monarchy, or that have severed such link.
Able Women Cameroon on its part is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Cameroon which Promotes Leadership Development &Empowerment for Women & youths, Engage Communities in Advocacy to Eradicate all forms of Violence against women and Girls especially Gender Based Violence through Skill development, Education and Mentorship.
