BY TARHYANG ENOWBIKAH TABE
Five months after the murder of the Norwegian business man, Jan Harald
Thogers inBatoke near Limbe, precisely on July 10, his assassins are still at
large.
The yet to be identified culprits are reported to have broken into the
residence of the Norwegian that fateful day at about 7:00 PM
Due to the very heavy rains, neighbors were out of the game as the
hoodlums successfully made their way into the house.
It is believed that after a stiff resistance, the hoodlums killed Jan
Harald Thogers in the presence of his Cameroonian girlfriend and took off.
The girlfriend is alleged to have been raped and traumatized by the
action and taken-off to a nearby forest naked where she was only discovered in
the morning by neighbors after being soaked by the heavy rains that fateful
night.
His body was deposited at the Limbe Hospital Mortuary, his Girlfriend
taken in to custody and we were informed that investigation had gone underway.
When investigations were opened, seven people were arrested and
detained at the Buea Judicial police.
The seven in police custody included relatives of Thogers’ ex-wife and
close friends of the Norwegian.
The arrest and detention of some family members of Thogers’ ex-wife
whose only name by press time we got as Mapong, a native of Bassaalso fuelled
speculations of her possible involvement in the macabre incident.
However, the seven suspects, including the Ex- Wife, we gathered have
been released from custody.
The Advocate was informed that, Jan Harald Thoogers was cremated
recently after an approval from the Norway Foreign Ministry and executed under
the supervision of a Limbe based Law Firm.
Norwegian media organs who contacted the Advocate for development after
the cremation ceremony were shocked that the assailants are still on the run.
Some inhabitants of Limbe who spoke to The Advocate say this is not the
first time that investigations have been opened in murder stories and they have
never been closed.
We are yet to know what happened to the CDC accountant who died in his
car at the Mile 2 Round about, Kinge Jacob told The Advocate.
There is a feeling that the perpetrators of such crimes may just be
around the corner and for the security of the population, all needs to be done
to bring the perpetrators of such crimes to book.
Administrative and security officials have however assured that, a case
like the Norwegian Murder has an international and diplomatic phase hence has
its processes to maintain diplomatic relations.
While the murderers of the Norwegian are still on the run, the civil
society and legal experts are pressing that whenever they are apprehended, the
community should be informed.
Security officials however say they are bent on tracking down the
assassins no matter how long the investigation may take
