By Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe With Reports

The Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome LM Ngale, has said there are hopes for better days in the Limbe City Council despite the hard times the council is facing.

Cameroon’s youngest and erudite City Mayor was speaking recently in Limbe during the examination of the administrative, management and stores accounts of the 2022 financial year of the Limbe City Council.

Low Revenue

He decried the low internal revenue collected by the City Council, caused partly by the SONARA situation after the 2019 fire incident which negatively impacted their internal recovery till date.

He added that business is slow and tax payers do not have resources to pay taxes and Economic Operators generally not willing to pay taxes.

Other reasons advanced were that of inadequate means to carry out control and difficulties for staff to go out for forceful recovery.

“From the foregoing, it is evident that despite our deep commitment towards meeting the aspirations of our community members, the hard times the City Council is going through has made it difficult for us to realize most of the projects outlined in our 2022 Action Plan” He said

Hopes And Conviction

“But there is hope, for I have the strongest conviction that things will soon change. The Limbe City council is embarking on life changing reforms for our community. We are setting up commercial structures to increase revenue so as to better manage the city sustainably.” Paul Efome LM Ngale said.

He added that they have already launched a major project with Colmar partners from France to rehabilitate the drainage channels in the city so as to address floods and sustain risks zones that have a landslide history.

According to the Limbe City Mayor, the Council shall regularly support sports and culture and also organize a male and female football tournament each year.

Encouragements

Speaking to Councilors and stakeholders of the City, the First Assistant SDO for Fako, Maryline Yefo, who represented the SDO for Fako, appreciated the Limbe City Mayor for engaging this far despite the challenges.

She was also hopeful like the City Mayor that better days lie ahead while tasking him to create other avenues to generate more revenue so as to meet up with the salary arrears situation faced by the Council.

The Budget

The Limbe City Council’s administrative, management and stores accounts of the 2022 fiscal year was therefore adopted as follows:

FCFA 8 Billion for both revenue and expenditure, Recurrent revenue was FCFA 5,446,492,725 and investment revenue was FCFA 2, 553,507, 275 with recurrent revenue collected during the year at FCFA 2,528,834,921.
