Ayuk Iyok Sweeps Votes To Become New SOBA President General

Sammy Pride Ayuk Iyok, the CEO of SAMCO PAPERS, with headquarter in Limbe, Fako, Southwest Region and member of the 1979 Class of St. Joseph College, Sasse, Buea is the new President General of the Sasse Old Boys Association, SOBA.

He was elected with 207 votes by fellow SOBANS during their Elective General Assembly at the campus of St. Joseph College, Sasse on Saturday, November 7 2020.

He beat his challenger, Barrister John Sichui Kameni, from the SOBA Buea Mother Chapter, who had 48 votes. 

The Business Magnate, from the SOBA Victoria Chapter, takes over from the Varsity Don and erudite Professor of Law, Prof Ephraim Nde Ngwafor, who has been at the helm of SOBA since 2013.

Eugene Kebbei Kah of the SOBA Douala Chapter had 232 votes to grab the position of the SOBA Secretary General, to be assisted by Barrister Linus Ateba Ossendi from the Muyuka Chapter.

 From the SOBA Douala Chapter, Desmond Njotsa was elected without any contestant as the SOBA Financial Secretary. The Civil Engineer and Consultant with German Cooperation Agency in, Buea, Cameroon, GIZ, Dr Ebob Eta Kwame of the Victoria Chapter was elected as Treasurer with 195 votes, edging his opponent, Vincent Kang, Accountant at SOWEDA, Buea and member of the SOBA Buea Mother Chapter, who had 61 votes. At the Public Relations Office 1, Edwin Eselem of Orange Cameroon and member of the Douala Chapter was elected unopposed while Walter Wilson Nana of CRTV Mount Cameroon FM98.6 Buea was elected with 151 votes for PRO 2, outsmarting Raymond Elume of the Yaounde Chapter, who took home 85 votes.

For the various SOBA General Vice Presidents, the following were elected; Emmanuel Nche Nchinda for the Northwest, Eric Chemone for the Littoral, Nchemti Mfataw for the Centre and South and for the Southwest Region, Dr Kenneth Foncha.

In his acceptance speech, Ayuk Iyok indicated that his team is enjoining the entire SOBA family across Cameroon and the world to construct a FCFA 35 Million road project from the entrance of Sasse College into the main campus. 

A project, which he immediately launched with a financial support of fcfa 100,000 while calling on all SOBANS to chip in just FCFA 20,000 and that road project will be realised in the shortest possible time. He told SOBANS during his tenure in office as the National President, they have to grow together in what he has termed the SOBA MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME, whereby the spirit of networking and harnessing all the potential energies and socio-economic, political and professional knowhow.

The outgone President General of SOBA, Prof Ephraim Ngwafor, enumerated some of the achievements of his team, saying the Ayuk Iyok Executive must continue to step up the game of SOBA and reinforce the spirit of a united and one-voice SOBA

Rev.Fr Emmanuel Epie, the Chair of the Electoral Commission for the hotly contested SOBA Elections 2020, who was designated by the Apostolic Administrator to the Buea Diocese entreated all SOBANS across the world to make SOBA reign and rally all their ideas behind the new team led by Sammy Pride Ayuk Iyok. "Let us bury the hatchet", he quipped.

A delighted Principal of St. Joseph College, Sasse, Buea, Rev.Fr Armstrong Ndi thanked SOBANS for the massive support the school is receiving from them all across the world and the ongoing projects in the Sasse College campus, financed by various Class Groups.

The Elective General Assembly ended with a common meal at the Buea Mountain Club, which is a tradition for SOBANS.
