By SHING TIMOTHY
The
Limbe based Ngore Africa Centre for Women Empowerment and Development, NAWCED
has officially kick started a one month training of women, young girls and
orphans with the goal to empower them with life changing skills.
The
goal of the training according to the CEO, Abunaw Olive was to empower women
with skills to stay independent.“This is training for development, because most
women in Cameroon are abused because they don’t have the means to support
themselves. So this training is to help women with basic skills so that they
can empower themselves to gain financial freedom. We are giving the women
skills on how to grow their businesses since most of them are small business
owners”.
The
one month training started on the Wednesday 19 January and will finish on the 19
February 2021,at the head office of NAWCED in Limbe. The training brings
together dozens of women and girls including orphans, small business owners as
well as some professional seamstresses.
We want to target a minimum of 20 women, so we
can be able to monitor and follow them up after the training. We will raise
funds and establish them after this training, by giving them raw materials to
launch their own lines of business.
The
beneficiaries of the free skill empowerment training will enable trainees gain
skills in making accessories made with ‘ankara’, rapper material and African
print. Thus they will be able to make earrings, bangles, shoes, bags. “We will
give them more vital skills to empower them. We will teach them to use local
materials to bring things that can empower them while promoting our beautiful
African culture”. Stressed Abunaw Olive
The
one month training according to the lead trainer Wirsiy Juliette will focus on
the business angle of the trade since most of the trainees need help. Starting
a business with skills according to her is cost effective.
“I
want to encourage women because this is a business that you can start with a
very small capital. The women after the training can hardly be destitute if
they put the skills learnt into practice. This isbecause when women are happy
the country is happy. I am teaching them from a business perspective, that is
they should take it like a trade. This is a business that I depend on”. Insisted
Wirsiy Juliette lead trainer.
According
to Rita Ebane Mukete one of the trainees, the training will enable her
diversify her sources of income. “They are training us to be able to make
earrings, bangles, bags shoes and other African wears using local materials. I
want to thank our trainers because these skills will help me diversify my
source of income. This will enable me not to have just one source of income
while also assisting others”.
While
Sakwe Glory and Arrey Mariana expressed their hope to use the skills acquired
to make some money, while helping others. “I have learnt a lot here like to
make bangles, shoes and other skills here that will hopefully help me to make
money and help myself. I came here to learn skills that will enable me help me
