Victoria City Football Club is one of the neophyte, promising and flagship youth football teams taking part in this year’s Limbe Football Coaches Association (LIFOCA) under 12 Youth Football Festival.

In a document circulated to media houses, partners and sponsors, the Youth Football jamboree will be played in accordance with Cameroon Football rules which are in line with the rules of the game laid down by the World Football governing body, FIFA.

The LIFOCA Youth Football Festival will bring together boys born from the 1st of January 2009 onward.

The competition will take place at the Limbe Community Field for the group stages while teams who qualify for the final stages will showcase their talent at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.

Victory City Football club, the brainchild of business mogul, globetrotter, promoter and lover of sports Kelvin Pona Hongla will be lodged in Group A of the tournament alongside the National Football Academy team, ANAFOOT, Bright Stars FC and Fussa.

Speaking to the promoter of Victoria City FC, Kelvin Pona Hongla, he briefed us that the idea of creating a football club which will morph into a football academy is out of his “love and passion for the game”.

As a young man growing up in Limbe, Hongla has always developed a strong admiration for the game of football especially during the glory days of his boyhood club Elecsports of Limbe.

The idea behind promoting Victory City FC is not only to live his childhood dream and passion for football but also to create a platform for the development of grassroot football, build a favourable ecosystem of youth employment and contribute towards the professionalization of football from the base.

It is worth noting that before the outbreak of the pandemic of Covid-19, Victoria City FC participated in the 2018 edition of the much-heralded Limbe Interquarter Football competition with an honourable participation right till the level of the Semi-Finals.

Hongla’s vision for the club is not only to create a football team but also to empower players, trainers and other football stakeholders to fight against the decay of Cameroon football which is gradually losing its pride of place as bestseller across the globe.

His idea is to run a full-scale football academy which will over the years become a reference for training and development in Cameroon and in the sub region.

The Boss of Rafiki Investment Group and supporter of Manchester City Football club intend to leverage from his wealth of experience across the globe and set the same standards for his hometown Limbe.

When asked why venturing in youth football development, Hongla noted that the only gauge for excellence in sports and football is to invest in the development of budding talents reason why the club is engaging in the U-12 tournament.

He added that his hope for the city of Limbe is to become a benchmark for training and nurturing of talent across the country.
