Chief Ngwesse Richard Etuge’s Reign Over Nkikoh Begins

Nkikoh, one of the biggest villages in Bangem subdivision, Kupe Muanenguba Division in the South West Region has turned a new page in its history as a new monarch has been enthroned as the traditional ruler.

His Royal Majesty Chief Ngwese Richard Etuge takes over the leadership of the Nkikoh village after over ten years of vacancy following the disappearance of the former ruler, Barrister Chief Nnoko Joseph.

While officially commissioning the new chief into his function as the auxiliary of the administration, the Divisional Officer (DO) of Bangem, Felix Kanga prescribed the promotion of peace and unity of the Nkikoh people, insisting that only through such that development can be achieved.

The Civil Administrator congratulated the people for working for the return of peace not only in the village but equally in the subdivision as a whole and urged the new leader and the elite to continue to sensitize the youth against social media manipulation in a bid to sustain the peace that reigns in the area.

He saluted the over FCFA 25 million solar electrification project realized by the village through community development mobilization and announced that the government has allocated FCFA 129 million for the electrification of some villages including Nkikoh. Equally, the announcement of the allocation of FCFA 50 million by the government through the Bangem Council for the construction of a health centre in Nkikoh was greeted with a thunderous applause from the population.

The event at the GS Nkikoh field was full of colour and cultural displays as it did not only reawaken the the rich cultural heritage of the people but also a sense of belonging and commitment to develop their native land.

This, the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Divine Ngaaje Etake said is a rebirth of a ‘new Nkikoh’ whose sons and daughters and well wishers are determined to take to higher heights in terms of unity and socio-cultural and economic development. Nkikoh people, he reassured, are solidly behind their traditional leader whom he advised in his speech to distance himself to things that may bring dishonour to the community and be a father to all for peace, unity and development to accelerate.

Mr Etake revealed that the Nkikoh Cultural and Development Association (NKICUDA) have chosen to construct a multipurpose community hall as their next project which will begin before next year.

The President of the Bangem sub divisional Chiefs’ conference, HRM Nkwelle II Atabe Peter on behalf of his peers congratulated their new member and promised their support to him as he carries out his exalting duties.

Other speakers at the event like NKICUDA National President, Daniel Okane and the Solar Electrification Project Coordinator all stressed on the need for all Nkikoh community at home and abroad to be ambassadors of unity and development of the village whose major challenge now is an all-season access road and land boundary issues with neighbouring villages.

The coronation and home coming event was also used to inaugurate the Nkikoh Solar Electrification project realized last year.
