 By Ojong Joseph Ojong

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is running a pilot project for youth empowerment (human capital investment) to revitalize the local economies through youths.

The project has as objective to empower 1,000 youths each in some municipalities of Cameroon.

Changing Mentalities and Empowering Groups (CHAMEG Cameroon) was given the mandate to implement the pilot phase of the project in the South West Region, CHAMEG Cameroon.

To execute this, CHAMEG then hired some experts to facilitate the training.

TABOKO Samson MENGE, the CEO and Co-founder of Manyu Development Group (Ma.De.G) was recruited as the Lead Trainer in Kumba.

According to Tabogo, “We succeeded to train 5 youths in the pilot project for 3 months. The first 2 months was dedicated for classroom work.

He added that they have covered 10 modules carved out in 2 courses.

After 2 months of classroom work, trainees chose the line of business they intend to operate.

They were then sent for coaching/field experience.

Trainees spent one month in the institutions that was hosting them for coaching/field experience.

At the end of the programme, each trainee submitted a business plan for funding to start up their own businesses. “We are now in the final phase of the project to hand startup capital to trainees” Taboko said.
