Cameroon Amputee National Team Gear Up For Amputee AFCON

Out of 20 players called up for camping a total of 16 players are present in camp, four absent so far. The 16 amputee players have been involved in work outs twice daily working on resistance, ball possession and control, passes and others.
As the days go by and with powerful opponents to face during the Cup of African Nations for Amputees, the team is in camp, fine tuning tactics for a better performance and output when they eventually travel to Dar es Salam Tanzania for CANAF 2021 to run from November 26, to December 5.
Their training is expected to last till November 23 wherein they are expected to travel to Tanzania for the 15 national tournaments.
Cameroom Amputee Football league dubbed CANAFL 2020 was recently concluded and Lead trainer Mankwa Donald says so far he can see the strength and determination of the players as they fine-tune tactics through more is expected.
"I can weigh the strength of my players, I can see it coming already eventhough they have been loose because so many of them since they concluded the league in August some of them have not been to the field. But from their strength I have seen these past days, I believe in them and the good in them is still coming out. There is still some more work to be done.
Going to Tanzania to achieve is positive in them. They all have that winning mentality which I am seeing and a positive mind set in every step they take."
Cameroon is drawn in group C alongside Liberia, Gambia and Ethiopia and are currently camping in Melong in the Mongo Division, Littoral region of Cameroon. Stade Renard of Melong serving as training ground from 8:00am to 10:00am and from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
15 teams have been drawn into four pools of four but for pool D with just three teams. The draws were conducted Thursday October 28, 2021 in the host country Tanzania by top officials of the African Amputee Football Federation FAAF, in the presence of its President Rev. Amartey Richard.
Teams to participate include defending champions Angola, Tanzania, Siera Leone, Uganda, Morocco, Ethiopia, Gambia, Liberia, Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Nigeria, Egypt and Ghana.
Being an independent body with no major support, the association and the National team currently in camp are unable to perform best due to some difficulties highlighted by head coach Mankwa Donald.
"Some of the difficulties we face are mostly our training equipments and player’s diet, complete first aid box, crutches, boats, flight tickets which hinders them from giving in their best. But we have a good pitch which is serving the purpose."
ABOUT CAMPUTEE
Cameroon Amputee Football Association CAMPUTEE is an association aimed at promoting Amputee Football in Cameroon. Amputee Football is a sport for people with disability.
The Association has been existing since January 2019, when they got official documents to operate as as an association in Cameroon.
Barely 10 months of existence, has CAMPUTEE participated in the first ever edition of the African Cup of Nations for Amputees which was hosted by defending champions of the World Cup Angola in October 2019.
A year later, the Association organized it's maiden edition of Cameroon Amputee National Football League dubbed CANAFL 2020 which was recently concluded in August 2021 and Abakwa Boys AFC of the North West region were crowned champions.
During that process, documents were deposited to at various offices which has earned the Association recognition from the World Amputee Football Federation WAFF and African Amputee Football Federation FAAF.
Come November 2021 from 26, the National Amputee Football team under the stewardship of coach Mankwa Donald will be travelling to Tanzania for a 15 nation tournament, the African Cup of Nations for Amputees dubbed CANAF 2021.
The Special Lions have been camping in Melong, Mongo Division of the Littoral region of Cameroon with the Melong municipal stadium serving as hosting ground.
With all these put together, the National Team which is almost a one man shouldered affair by the National President, is in need of support at various levels, both material and financial support. Some players who are expected to travel, lack passports, materials to train and play, Jerseys, Crutches, Boats, Flight tickets, Water and several others.

The Cup of African Nations Amputee Football CANAF is a biennial competition for African Amputee Footballers aimed at expanding the visibility and rights of people with disabilities.
