The day is celebrated this year on the theme “YOUTH STANDING UP AGAINST RACISM.” It engages the public through #FightRacism, which aims to foster a global culture of tolerance, equality and anti-discrimination and calls on each and every one of us to stand up against racial prejudice and intolerant attitudes. The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960. CEYOFE Builds Capacities Of Young Peacemakers

  By Constance Mbongo The Centre for Youth and Family Empowerment (CEYOFE) in partnership U.S State department have ended a 2-day training for   30 youth leaders and activists of civil society organizations across Fako Division in the South West Region on peace building and peacemaking. After an intensive two day capacity building workshop from February 24-25, 2021, the youths have left with a determination to continue pressing for peace. Themed “Building Peacemakers for peace”, the workshop to foster youths participation in peace building processes took place at the Cameroon Cultural Centre, Bongo Square, Buea.                      SONARA GM By Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe Despite the fire incident of May 31, 2019 that hit the lone oil refining company in Cameroon, SONARA, the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility component is still buoyant. The company has been carrying out community projects in the surrounding villages as part of its corporate social responsibility viz a viz its hosts environs. SONARA has constructed two modern water borehole projects within the community of Mukundange and the Limbola Health Centre, Limbe II Subdivision and two toilets, one at the Ngeme Market (Limbe II) and one at the Dikolo village within the Limbe III community. The water projects that have been done   so far stands   at the cost of over FCFA 20 million while the toilets are at FCFA 10 million, all funded by SONARA for the benefit of these communities. On 06th February, 2021 the world remembers the victims and practitioners of FGM and the role of governments and other stakeholders in ending this hideous practice. FGM is a global issue and there are girls and women living with FGM in all regions of the world. FGM is a great violation of the human rights of women and girls and has no medical justification. There is an urgent need for change in our approach to this practice that renders women hopeless and mere sex objects or baby making machines. There is a need to boost efforts to eliminate FGM and to provide the best healthcare services to victims. Governments should identify FGM victims and treat them effectively. This role is not only limited to governments but also to practising communities, families, victims and perpetrators, the medical corp and other stakeholders. Everyone has a role to play.
