Journalists Call For Release of Colleague Ojong Joseph

Journalists in the country through various outlets have condemned the arrest of one of theirs, Ojong Joseph Ojong in Mamfe by security officers on Sunday 19 July 2021.

Journalists and some Associations have called for his immediate and unconditional release

According to reports, the Reporter Ojong Joseph, who works with this organ, The Advocate Newspaper and also a local Community Radio, was been arrested by Security Officers in Mamfe.

He is being held for days on allegations that he took pictures of the house of a police officer, burnt down by separatist fighters.

According to Journalists, he was only on the line of duty and that doesn’t make it a crime.

Since his arrest, there has been series on online Campaigns with Harstags, Journalism is not a crime.

The Cameroon Association of Media Professionals, The Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists and The Network of Human Rights Reporters for Central Africa, where he is an active member, have all called for his immediate and unconditional release.

The arrests of Journalists in Cameroon especially in line with the Anglophone Crisis is on the increase and human rights bodies feel the terrain is not a safe one for practicing journalists especially those in the private sector.

The Committee To Protect Journalists, is also leading an investigation and calling for the release of Ojong Joseph Ojong.
