Fako Chiefs Laud Government Over Limbe Deep Seaport
By Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe
On Tuesday, May 5, President Biya
signed Decree No. 2020/249 of May 5th creating
the Limbe Autonomous Port, LAP, abbreviated in French as PAL.
Before
now, the Limbe Port has been in existence as a subsidiary of the Douala
Autonomous Port.
The
creation of the Limbe Autonomous Port, now entails that the Limbe facility will
no longer be managed as part of the Douala Port, and paves the way for the
long-awaited commencement of the construction of the Limbe Port so that it can
be able to function, fully, as a Port of its own.
It
is in line with the decree that Fako Chiefs, under the banner of the Fako
Chiefs Conference last Thursday May 14, joined their royal voices o that of the
elite and youth in Fako to thank the Government for a dream comes true.
The Fako Chief Conference under the leadership
of HRM Ndike Kombe Richard, lead the Delegation of traditional rulers in Fako
Division to the office of the Senior Divisional Officer, where a motion of
gratitude to the Head of State President Paul Biya was sent through the first
assistant SDO, representing the SDO.
According to Chief Ndike, the
reasons for thanking the Head of State are many, "It's necessary that we
the people of Fako traditional rulers representing all communities to stand and
say thank you to the President Paul Biya. It has been a long awaited project,
today we stand to say it has come to pass.” He said.
“We want to say thank you because he
is a man of his words because when we left the National Dialogue in Yaounde we
the people of South West Region made a request to him and today we have seen
what he has done.
That’s why we are here, today to say
immensely thank you to him. We are assuring him that we are behind him, he
should count on us”. Chief Ndike Richard told the press.
Reacting to what they think about
management of the port, the chiefs were clear that the management of the port
should be given to an Anglophone.
"We have competent people who
can be at the helm of the management. The South West and North West has
been attributed to special status.
It's 'our thing' they should give it
to us. The management should be our management.” The Chief said.
He added that apart from that, they added
that first class employee should children from the area concerned.
Chief Ndike and his pals believe and
strongly too that if it is done this way, young persons from these areas who
are in the bush will come out and benefit from the available jobs.
Fako Chiefs equally called on the
population of Fako to respect government measures and that of WHO against
COVID-19 because the pandemic is real.
Chief Ndike and his delegation over
40 traditional rulers marched from the Limbe City Council Hall Down Beach to
the Office of the SDO where they were received by the representative of the
SDO, First Assistant SDO for Fako Wirkom Maryline Yefon.
She received the motion of support
to transmit it to the Head of State President Paul Biya.
