By George Dinga
The Rapid Intervention Battalion
better known as BIR, has put smiles on the faces of the population of Bakingili
in the West Coast area.
This was during a ceremony to
handover the rehabilitation health centre of Bakingili and donation of medical
kits to the centre that took place on May 12, 2020 at the esplanade of the
centre.
During the duo ceremony that was
presided over by the Divisional Officer for the West Coast Stephen Ngai Ngong,
the commandant of the Rapid Intervention Battalion of ldenau Major Zongo Xavier
reiterated that the role of the army is to take care of the population not only
in terms of security but also in terms of social domains.
That the army is always ready to
work in synergy with the population and that the donation shows the links that
exist between the army and the population.
It should be noted that before
donating to the Bakingili health centre, the Rapid Intervention Battalion had
reconstructed and rehabilitate a primary school in Idenau and the ldenau beach.
The items donated included baby
beds, carriers for patients, microscope to identify diseases, baby scale and
that of women among others.
In his address the Divisional
Officer for the West Coast Stephen Ngai Ngong thanked the BIR for the donation
while mentioning that the BIR have been doing a lot to the community of the
West Coast area.
He called on them not to relent their efforts but to continue
to think of their community.
The Divisional Officer called on
the population to continue to encourage and collaborate with the BIR.
The representative of the chief
of centre of the health centre of Bakingili, Gerald Gah Tezi used the occasion
to extend his gratitude to the Rapid Intervention Battalion for the kind
gesture.
He said the donation is timely taking into
consideration the challenges face by the health centre. He promised to use the
equipment judiciously for the purpose it deserves but as Oliver Twist; he said
the health centre needs more.
The chief of centre called on the BIR to
continue with the kind gesture to other centres in the subdivision.
